GRR: Play Rugby
Rugby NY wrapped up their HS 7s season over the weekend with Boys Varsity, Girls, and Boys JV action.
With state borders sometimes being irrelevant in the area of New York City, some teams from Connecticut and New Jersey also participated.
Pelham HS beat PlayRugby in the final of the third week of New York HS 7s this pas weekend, capping off an exciting day of rugby.
PlayRugby took a 12-0 lead and held that to halftime in the final. But Pelham stormed back with three unanswered tries to win it 21-12 and maintain Pelham’s lead in the NY State series.
Last year, Virginia won the Pittsburgh Challenge Cup (aka Mid-Atlantic Regional Cup Tournament) over Empire City 6-0, and that two-penalty-goal loss is not something the New Jersey/New York City-based team wants to repeat. All-star head coach Tom Feury has assembled a star-studded coaching staff and pooled some good talent for a run at the trophy this weekend.
In its first trip to the New York state championship, Orchard Park finished the final four weekend 2-0, ending with a 33-29 win over reigning girls high school champ Play Rugby Academy for the title.
