RPI, Vassar Leads into Tri-State Playoffs
RPI defeated SUNY New Paltz 41-0 to complete an undefeated run in the Tri-State Women's DII Conference, setting up a rematch with New Paltz on Saturday in the first round of the conference playoffs.
Six other teams are in the first round of the playoffs, while the top four from the North - Vassar, Albany, Marist, and Stony Brook - get a bye to the next round.
Tri-State Almost to Playoffs
Siena defeated RPI and Sacred Heart defeated Marist to retain 1st place in the Tri-State North for Sacred Heart.
William Paterson beat College of New Jersey to finished 4-0 in the Tri-State South, and Vassar, with three tries from Trevor Kennish, is now 5-0, setting up a showdown with SUNY New Paltz for the final weekend.
New Paltz, Vassar on Collision Course
Both SUNY New Paltz and Vassar are 4-0 in the Tri-State Men's DII Conference Central Division, but they've arrived at that lofty spot in fairly different ways.
New Paltz has dominated, scoring close to 50 points a game and giving up less than seven. Vassar, on the other hand, has had to tough out some close ones.
Tri State North - RPI, Siena, Sacred Heart
Siena College hosted Hofstra Saturday on Parents Weekend and came away with a crucial Tri-State Conference win.
Siena emerged 43-12 winners behind tries from fullback Brett Gaughan, No. 8 Ryan Powell, two from center Ryan Flynn, and three from flanker Matt Demm.
Startling Turnaround for William Paterson
William Paterson’s 2-0 start in the Tri-State Conference is notable enough, but even more so when you consider WPU did not win a single conference game last year.
The turnaround isn’t a fluke. WPU defeated NJIT and Molloy, two teams that were 5-1 in the conference last season.
