Two Iona Wins Highlight Rugby East Warmups
Iona College put together two nice early victories in warmup games last week.
Iona had a fairly comfortable time of it against Fairfield, winning 48-0 in a fame where the Gaels ran in changes relatively early. Then Iona took on Fordham, which hung touch through the game and scored two late tries in a 36-20 Iona victory.
Delaware Over Iona in Bowl Game
Delaware defeated Iona 36-29 in the Pat Quinn Ice Bucket Challenge Bowl Saturday in New Rochelle, NY.
Iona got two tries from Evan Staikos in the loss. Chris Mattina led Delaware in their final game of their comeback fall.

Penn State scored a big Rugby East Conference victory with a 56-12 defeat of Iona Friday night in Happy Valley.

Asked to characterize Sean Hardiman’s game at scrumhalf for Iona in their victory over Army this past weekend, Iona Head Coach Bruce McLane was succinct - “he played the best game of his life.”
Good timing for Hardiman, as he did so against a formidable opponent. Hardiman himself said his day, and the team’s day, came down to a lot of self-belief.
