New and Growing HS Teams in Action
As has been mentioned in GRR this winter, there are several new school teams taking the field this year.
Others are just consolidating their presence, moving up a division or solidifying their relationship with their school.
In Northern California, two new school teams faced off against each other.
Dallas Jesuit Wins Texas-LA Varsity Cup Over Strake Dallas Jesuit won the Texas/Louisiana Varsity Cup final Saturday night, defeating Strake Jesuit 27-14 to take the title and end their season undefeated. The game was, at one point, 27-0, but two late Strake tries made it a little closer.
Strake Jesuit Wins, Sets Up Tex-La VC Playoffs Strake Jesuit defeated St. Thomas 50-10 Tuesday evening to round out the Texas/Louisiana Varsity Cup playoff bracket. With a couple of seniors unavailable for the game, Strake had to pull Jackson Hebert into the starting scrumhalf position.
A Loss for American Rugby: Rugby Texas President Maggie Rouse
Maggie Rouse, President of Rugby Texas, passed away this past Friday.
Rouse, who was a vocal supporter of youth rugby for many years as well as a huge advocate for getting young people trained and certified as referees, was in addition a member of the USA Youth & High School Board and had been since the organization's inception.
American Teams Take Hardware at United World Games
It was a day of championships for American teams at the United World Games in Klagenfurt, Austria Sunday as all three brackets the US teams played in were won by the Yanks.
