San Diego Mustangs Fend Off Thunder in SoCal
The San Diego Mustangs made a bit of a statement win, defeating SoCal rivals Thunder 31-12 Saturday.
San Diego struck early, punishing a Thunder penalty. They kicked to touch, set the maul, and drove over, with prop Matthew Staycer touching down.
Mustangs Prove SoCal Knows What It's Doing
The San Diego Mustangs weren’t exactly miffed that they were in Tier 2 of the Boys HS National Championships, but they still had something to prove.
“Southern California is the best rugby in the United States,” said the Mustangs’ Judd Berman. And San Diego wanted to show where they stacked up.

Paced by two tries from Jacob Bower the SOC Raptors won yet another nailbiter in Southern California, holding off a determined San Diego Mustangs 24-21 in a midweek clash.

In a result that could well shake up the HS club rankings, or at least give rankings and Nationals seeders some pause, the South OC Raptors defeated previously unbeaten Thunder Rugby 24-21 in Southern California league play.
Thunder, which had been pushed by the Raptors earlier in the season, led 21-17 only to see SOC score late to win it.
Comebacks Highlight SoCal Return
Southern California started its league season after a long delay and Thunder, Belmont Shore, and the SOC Raptors all came away victorious, two coming back to do so.
