GRR: Women DII College
“The Kennesaw State University Women’s Rugby Football club was established with its inaugural competitive season starting in Fall of 2010. With its first competitive season starting in Spring 2011, the team went undefeated in the regular season, became regional champions, and competed in the National Championship play-offs for DII.” – 2011 Kennesaw State Women’s Rugby website post
Much like DI fall champion UCONN (read more), Davenport is starting to realize that the toughest times are ahead.
I have been fortunate to work on a few webcasts recently as a play-by-play or color commentator (actually, I did 16 games in the space of ten days but who’s counting?), and I have some opinions that have sprung up from those experiences.
The final Women DII College Fall Top 20 of 2015 comes with the conclusion of the fall championship, which Davenport claimed on Dec. 6. It is the first fall title for the Panthers, and the team will spend the upcoming spring season building toward the national championship on May 6.
Davenport is heading to the DII national championship, having won the fall title after two exhilarating games last weekend. A ferocious second half was needed against Bloomsburg in the semifinals, but the 41-26 victory pit the Panthers against perennial fall finalist Winona.
