GRR: USA Men 7s
Both USA 7s teams are in Cape Town for the next legs of the World Series.
This is Leg #3 for the men and #2 for the women. At least in future seasons it will be the same leg for each as everything will be evened out for the 2023-24 season.
Fourth place for the USA Men's 7s team in Dubai provided a little look at what a difference some of the more experienced players make.
While everyone who came back from injury is a good player, the one who probably had the greatest influence was Joe Schroeder. Winning restarts and winning the aereal battle suddenly became a lot easier with the former Royal Irish star.
The USA Men's 7s team goes to Dubai this week with a number of injured players back in the lineup.
Captain Kevon Williams returns, as does prop Joe Schroeder, and Stephen Tomasin.
While Australia defeated Fiji to win the Hong Kong 7s, the USA returns home having finished a pretty creditable 6th.
To get to that 6th place the Eagles needed to win one game on Day Three, and they did that, putting in their best defensive showing in the 5th-6th semifinal.
The USA is in the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong 7s after finishing pool play 2-1.
The Eagles did lose their final pool game against Fiji, although the 24-0 result wasn’t a typical Fijian avalanche. But then they had already beaten Japan.
