It is enormously difficult to repeat in a major championship.
You have to deal with players thinking it's going to be easier this time around. You have to deal with the opposition putting a huge target on you. You have to deal with player turnover that could expose deficiencies you didn't know you had.
Saturday was not Bowling Green's day.
A strong Falcons side that had played well through the fall did not bring its A-game against a Kentucky team that was firing nicely. The result, in this NCR D1AA final was an emphatic Kentucky Wildcat repeat, 57-14.
Saturday's NCR Finals action gives us Kentucky looking for a repeat and Bowling Green trying to get back to the heights they hit in 2018.
Kentucky has been the #1 team in the SCRC all season and there didn't seem to be much doubt about that ... until the conference final.
Just as the NCR D1AA playoffs heat up the temperature chills out.
This coming weekend in Reading, Pa. is expected to be cold … very cold … but the four teams remaining in the playoffs will have to shake that off to make the final what everyone hopes will be a warmer final a week later in Houston.
Kentucky and Clemson won relatively comfortably in their SCRC semifinals to set up next weekend's final.
The Wildcats defeated a hard-nosed South Carolina side 29-15.
