GRR: Sam Houston State
Iowa State won their ACR DIAA semifinal this past weekend, defeating San Houston State to make the final in Denver on May 6.
Both teams had won their quarterfinals in nailbiters, with SHSU beating Texas State and Iowa State holding off Minnesota.
It’s been a pretty good 10 months or so for Sam Houston State.
After the Bearkats went winless through the R7CC 7s tournament in Atlanta last May, Sam Houston turned it around and won the DIAA bracket at the CRC two weeks later.
Sam Houston State held off Texas State in a very busy and challenging Lonestar Conference finals weekend to win the conference.
The tournament featured three games over two days, with shortened quarterfinals and semifinals on Saturday and the final on Sunday.
Sam Houston State torched Southern Nazarene 66-24 to win the Lonestar Bowl at NCR's championship weekend.
Southern Nazarene is a new school-supported program and is very young. They have produced a solid record, but were up against it facing a big, powerful SHSU side.
It was a somewhat quiet weekend in DIAA, but these players made some noise.
