GRR: PAC Rugby Conference
TUCSON, Ariz. (Cal Rugby Release) – With nine players making their first meaningful starts of the season, the Golden Bears opened their PAC Rugby Conference account Saturday with a 61-12 win over Arizona on William David Sitton Field.
Losing isn’t fun, and at Cal it’s also not very common, but sometimes a loss has its silver lining.
UCLA remains atop the PAC Rugby Conference after a pretty straightforward 82-5 defeat of Oregon State.
Utah kept pace with the Bruins by beating Arizona State 31-10. It was a physical, hard-nosed game between the Utes and the Sun Devils, but Utah showed much improved defensive structure. Offensively they had trouble finishing off attacking chances.
The PAC Rugby Conference moves on this weekend with two more games.
Right now, UCLA leads with a 1-0 record having beaten Arizona State 32-12.
The Niall Barry-captained Bruins face off with Oregon State in a game where UCLA really must be favored.
Lindenwood travels to Texas to take on Arizona this weekend in a non-conference clash of two DIA hopefuls.
