GRR: Norwich University Women
American International College (0-2) gave Norwich (1-0) a run, coming out hard in the DI varsity match Sunday. But the Cadets exerted themselves in the second half and pulled away for the 48-32 win.
Norwich published its season preview this morning (read here), but the most notable detail was confirmation of an actual women's college varsity league with a fall championship. The press release states:
Last Saturday, five DI varsity programs convened in Providence, R.I., for the inaugural Varsity 7s tournament. Norwich was forecasted to win, and it did, but the Cadets did not cruise to the title.
Norwich women won its third 7s tournament of the spring season, outscoring opponents 171-7 en route to the Scott Milley 7s title at the University of New Hampshire. But that points differential isn't even the most impressive stat; the Cadets have never lost a 7s game – ever – and boast a 51-0 all-time record.
Norwich returned to the pitch yesterday, traveling south to Loudonville, N.Y., for Siena College’s PatRUCK’s 7s tournament. In their first outing of the season, the Cadets went 4-0, outscoring opponents 107-10.
