Brother Martin and Jesuit New Orleans kicked off league play in Louisiana on a somewhat muddy Saturday.
The Brother Martin Crusaders took the contest 31-15 over the Blues Jays of Jesuit.
Good news from Louisiana HS rugby as a league-wide preseason scrimmage held this month saw an increased number of players and teams.
A region hit badly by COVID, Louisiana had dropped to about four teams in boys high school rugby. This preseason scrimmage day saw seven teams participate:
Strake Jesuit defeated St. Thomas 50-10 Tuesday evening to round out the Texas/Louisiana Varsity Cup playoff bracket.
With a couple of seniors unavailable for the game, Strake had to pull Jackson Hebert into the starting scrumhalf position. Hebert excelled on the day and even capped off the day at flyhalf.
Several leagues in boys HS rugby are getting going already and while we've given you details on those that are fully up and running, more are just getting started.
