GRR: Iowa
The Iowa State Cyclones defeated the University of Iowa Haweyes 43-19 to win the Heart of America championship this past weekend.
Meanwhile, Kansas and Kansas State tied their 3rd-4th match. The game was supposed to be resolved with overtime, but a nasty injury, and the time it took to treat the player, led to the teams taking the tie instead.
It's an all-Iowa final for the Heart of America after last weekend's semifinals, and we get a rematch of Week #1 in the the final day of competition.
Iowa State held off University of Iowa 18-10 in a tense Heart of America conference game Saturday.
The Cyclones secured an early 15-0 lead but after that was under a lot of pressure from Iowa. Seeing one player get two yellow cards, and thus being shorthanded throughout the second half, didn’t help.
The University of Kansas put in a very impressive 34-0 shutout of Iowa this past weekend and the Jayhawks are in excellent position in the Heart of America DIAA Conference.
Former SE Polk HS star Deion Mikesell, the top player in Iowa's 7s season last year, will start at wing for the USA U20s Saturday evening in Austin against Canada.
