GRR: Empire Conference
USA Rugby has released the Men's College DIAA fall playoff bracket, after some time negotiating and working with various issues within the conferences.
Eight teams will participate, and seeds are as follows:
1. Notre Dame College - Notre Dame College Over Lindenwood-Belleville
SUNY Binghamton is the Empire Conference champion after scoring late to overcome Syracuse 21-20 in a game that encapsulated the conference’s tight, competitive nature.
Well is it settled after the regular season is over? Quite possibly.
The Empire Conference season ended with three games this weekend, and still most of the league with hope of making the conference final. League-leaders Binghamton lost, but got bonus points for four tries and a close loss, and that was enough to keep Binghamton in front.
In writing about the Chesapeake Conference, where there seemed to be an inordinate number of close games, we decided to see if our impressions were correct.
So we looked at the stats in Men's DI College rugby. We looked at which conferences had the most close losses (7 points or less) and also who had the most, what we'll call "competitive losses," which means losses of 14 or less.
Binghamton University hasn't clinched a top-two spot in the Empire Conference, but they are as close as possible.
