GRR: Cal Poly
San Diego State defeated Cal Poly 13-8 Saturday in a preseason meeting between the two California Conference foes.
This was not the conference meeting between the Aztecs and Mustangs, and more served as a warmup for the conference season. Certainly is wasn’t an especially smooth game, where neither team was able to use the full width of the field the way they might like.
Air Force defeated Cal Poly 43-17 Saturday in Moraga, Calif. to move on to a DIA quarterfinals Sunday against St. Mary’s.
The game was postponed from last week due to snow in Colorado, and Air Force traveled to Northern California at short notice to play two games in two days.
It’s a quick turnaround from the regular season to the DIA playoffs, but the first round is indeed upon us this coming weekend.
Eight teams enter the playoffs from all over the country, and all with some significant game-hardening behind them. Here’s a look:
San Diego State held on for a dramatic 21-20 victory over Cal Poly, moving to 3-1 in the California Conference.
The Aztecs and Mustangs battled each other throughout a physical Saturday evening game, and it was never a game that seemed to be in control by either team.
St. Mary's remains atop the California DIA Conference thanks to a 53-12 defeat of UC Santa Barbara; Cal Poly won their first conference game in other action this weekend.
St. Mary's rested several starters due to injuries, but held in in, what Head Coach Tim O'Brien called a "very low-energy match."
