SAN DIEGO (January 28, 2016) – ATAVUS and MM7 Training Center have partnered to expand the ATAVUS Academy in San Diego, providing sustained, year-round player development for women and men at the senior (18+) and junior (U18) levels.
ATAVUS recently sent USA flyhalf/scrumhalf Shalom Suniula and former Eagle prop Shawn Pittman to Tennessee to work with players from Middle Tennessee State University, and high school players from South Doyle and other teams.
Suniula worked with the players on passing skills and decision-making, while Pittman works on contact and forward skills.
SEATTLE – Current Director of Rugby at Yale University and USA Rugby Collegiate All-American coach Greg McWilliams has joined ATAVUS to develop Rugby specific curriculum, provide elite level coaching at ATAVUS camps and academies, and drive coach development within the organization.
There’s been a lot of talk in rugby and football circles about the influence of one sport over the other in terms of tackling and converting crossover athletes, and ATAVUS Coach Emilie Bydwell said there are certainly approaches that work best for rugby coaches.
SEATTLE – ATAVUS (atavus.com) has launched its two newest ATAVUS Academy locations in Minneapolis and San Diego to provide sustained, year-round player development. Initially both locations will focus on women’s (18+) programs, designed to parallel the USA Rugby Women’s development pathway and scheduled to complement rugby schedules in the Midwest and Southern California.
