South Doyle has been one of the top teams in the state for years, and Bearden has been chasing them for a while. They caught them this past weekend.
St. Xavier of Louisvulle, Ky. defeated South Doyle this weekend in a clash with the defending Tennessee champs in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Tigers came out fast and hard and took an early 12-0 lead on tries by Logan Butler, Tucker Donlon and a conversion kick by Alec Campisano. South Doyle weren’t about the let that stand without a response, and scored two tries to lead 14-12.
St. Edward left the University of Kentucky High School Showcase 2-0 on the varsity level and 4-0 overall, beating South Doyle and Ravenwood.
St. Ed’s beat South Doyle 55-0 on Saturday, paced by Elijah Warfield's two tries, and their JVs won 53-0 over South Doyle’s Bs. On Sunday, St. Edward’s JVs were victorious again, and then in the varsity game, St. Edward beat Ravenwood 31-3.
The University of Kentucky is hosting a meeting of four HS teams, two from Tennessee, and one each from Ohio and Indiana.
In the middle of a series of preseason games, defending Tennessee champs South Doyle met up with top Georgia team Lassiter Trojans.
After losing to Georgia's Phoenix club, South Doyle was looking for some measure of revenge after a little more time on the training field.
Saturday South Doyle beat Lassiter 32-3, and now look on to play Oakland HS out of Murfreesboro.
