Fort Hunt, as expected, clinched the Mid-Atlantic Premier League with a 29-14 defeat of West End.

West End finished their five-game MAPL season with a 1-3-1 record. Downingtown won 22-20 over West Shore in a game that was also a Rugby Pa league game. Downingtown can bypass West End for 4th if they get a tie, a two-bonus-point loss, or a win against Doylestown.

Fort Hunt, the #1-ranked HS club, defeated the #3 single-school team Gonzaga Saturday in a tense, physical game.

The run of play mostly favored Gonzaga, but Fort Hunt got two crucial early tries, held on desperately in defense despite two yellow cards, and won 19-12.

It’s #1 v #3 but not the way you might think.

Right now Goff Rugby Report has Fort Hunt as the #1 HS Club team, and Gonzaga as the #3 single-school team, but really if you look at the history of things, Gonzaga would still have to be favored. Gonzaga has won three straight national championships, while Fort Hunt is still shooting for those lofty heights.

The second weekend of the Mid-Atlantic Premier League is set with all six teams in action.

On Saturday, Gonzaga hosts Downingtown in what will be Downingtown’s first MAPL game and Gonzaga’s third. Gonzaga will be looking to rebound from an update loss to Doylestown, while Downingtown has high hopes for this season in the MAPL and in Pennsylvania.
