CHAPEL HILL, NC– The University of North Carolina Tar Heels men's rugby team has made an early offseason coaching move, appointing Joey Rasmus as Head Coach of the rising club program.
Rasmus kicks off a new era of professional coaching at his alma mater, bringing with him a reputation as a program builder.
The Southern DII Men’s College Conference starts up this weekend in what is a hugely competitive competition.
It was only a friendly, but whenever Virginia Women’s Rugby (UVA) and North Carolina play each other, the game is of interest. They’re two of the consistently strong DI teams in the Mid-Atlantic and are favorites to meet in the Mason-Dixon conference final this spring.
North Carolina entered the South DI regional championship well prepared. Solid scouting created a game plan that took the ball out of Life's hands, and the Tar Heels executed well … until the final minute of play. Leaning on its fitness and patience, the Running Eagles scored the game-winning try at the buzzer for a 12-10 win and trip to the spring final four.
The DI South sees Life and North Carolina into the spring quarterfinals, with the victor heading to Pittsburgh for the Final Four. The Running Eagles was one conversion away from the century mark in its 98-0 win over Texas A&M, while North Carolina turned a three-point lead into a 55-21 victory today in Greenville, S.C.
