GRR: Storer Classic
Saint Mary's defeated Grand Canyon Saturday in an early-January D1A meeting.
The Gaels won comfortably, 92-3. It's a bit of a rebuilding time for both teams as they came in pretty young. But Saint Mary's obviously has a bit more depth with which to work.
As always the Storer Classic provides some important preseason rugby for teams in the West, and this year did not disappoint.
There were several solid showings with SOC Raptors, Marin, Carlsbad, and Layton Christian all producing some good results. Atop all of those was Belmont Shore, which ended the weekend 3-0.
Cal rugby shut out UCLA 21-0 on Day Two of the Dennis Storer Classic to top the tournament for the 18th consecutive year.
The Golden Bears victory followed on Day One victories over UC San Diego (94-0) and Cal Poly (33-7).
After a week where we had one college game, here's a look at a slightly busier slate for this week.
UCSB kicks off their conference season at Stanford in the California D1AA conference; Saint Mary's continues their season with a game against the SFGG club; Central Washington opens up their season with a club opponent, as well, Seattle in this case.
Cal won the Storer Classic, giving up zero points through the weekend and beating UCLA 45-0 in the final game on Sunday.
