GRR: Referees
Before we all get caught up in New Years resolutions, we can celebrate another tradition of the New Year—World Rugby messing around with the laws.
Now, don't get us wrong. We here at GRR World Headquarters think that sometimes the laws need to be messed around with, but not always, and not always in the same way.
One of the features, perhaps the responsibilities, of big tournaments is to develop good refereeing.
Maggie Rouse, President of Rugby Texas, passed away this past Friday.
Rouse, who was a vocal supporter of youth rugby for many years as well as a huge advocate for getting young people trained and certified as referees, was in addition a member of the USA Youth & High School Board and had been since the organization's inception.
The Boys HS National Championships is fast approaching, and the seeds and brackets are going to be released very soon.
USA Rugby referee Kat Roche will become the third American referee appointed to the Women's Six Nations.
Roche is the first woman to referee a Major League Rugby event and is scheduled to referee Ireland vs Wales on March 26 and Italy vs England on April 3.
She follows Dana Teagarden and Leah Berard was American women with major international assignments.
