GRR: Red River
Texas beat previously unbeaten TCU 38-0 in Red River Conference play Saturday.
For the Longhorns, this was a nice step forward as they moved to 3-0 in the conference and in a solid position to remain atop the standings.
Fullback Aleander Teague scored two tries for Teas while scrumhalf Theo Quay, flanker Jack Slaney, lock Tom Marlow, and wing Guy Leroux all scored one try.
The University of Texas signaled a change in the Red River over the weekend with a 25-3 defeat of Texas A&M.
The game wasn’t a conference matchup—it was alumni weekend for UT and A&M was available to play, but still it was the Longhorns’ first victory over the Aggies in 15 years.
Texas A&M has filled most of its new coaching staff set to start this summer and into the fall.
The coaches named will replace James Lowrey, who is moving and announced this season will be his last. Lowrey is already working with new coaches to help the transition.
Texas A&M shut out Texas to clamp a firm hold on the top spot in the Red River Conference.
After posting convincing wins over their first two opponents, the Aggies had to work for it a bit more against UT, but came away 34-0 winners in front of an enthusiastic crowd
The upstart in the Red River Conference has to be the University of Texas Austin.
The Longhorns, once one of the stronger teams in the conference, had hit upon hard times not helped by a revolving door of coaches. They have a new coaching staff again, but perhaps some solidity. Certainly there's a group of players who are behind their new head guy.
