GRR: Pacific Cup
Kahuku's ride to a victory at the Pacific Cup was a bumpy one, at least at the start, but in the end the Red Raiders upended some impressive opposition to take the title this past weekend.
It's been a thrilling day at the Pacific Cup in Hawaii, with the USA-based teams showing very well in a tight, competitive tournamnt.
Two-time defending champs Danville out of Northern California ended the day 2-0, as did the Coastal Dragons of Southern California, and Hawai'i-based St. Francis. They were the only three teams undefeated.
The Pacific Cup kicks off in Oahu on Thursday, with teams from Utah, California, Arizona, Hawai'i, Tonga, Cook Islands, and New Zealand in a highly challenging boys HS tournament.
The teams will play shortened games over the first two days, setting up the final full-length games.
Coaches from the 2016 Pacific Cup tournament voted to select the tournament's all-tournament team.
Danville Oaks scrumhalf Keanu Andrade was named tournament MVP.
Danville won the Pacific Cup HS Tournament with a convincing 42-10 defeat of Peninsula Green.
This was a much-anticipated meeting between the Northern California Varsity Premier Champion (Danville) and the NorCal DI winner (Pen Green). PG had hoped to unseat the Oaks but it didn't happen that was as Danville put together a complete performance.
