GRR: St. Augustine
It's down to the wire on the Southern California Boys HS Varsity Red competition, as playoff berths hang in the balance.
Last week, La Costa Canyon was able to hold on to beat Cathedral. LCC went up early, fell behind 14-13 at the break, and then pulled away 37-28 late in the game.
Torrey Pines defeated Del Norte, and so the standings now look like this:
St. Augustine won a key game against Cathedral Catholic in Southern California’s Varsity Red division.
In a clash of two teams looking to make the playoffs, St. Augustine won 38-27, with scrumhalf Ethan McVeigh playing superbly, scoring two tries and kicking well, also. Cathedral’s No. 8, Miles McCormick, scored two tries for his side and was a handful all night.
Torrey Pines won the early Game Of The Year in SoCal High School rugby, taking down rivals St. Augustine 24-21 this past weekend.
The New Year will bring for the Southern California Varsity Red one of the biggest games of the year, as St. Augustine matches up with Torrey Pines.
Already these two single-school teams have put others on notice.
The Champion for the Southern California Red Division takes home the Titan Shield, signifying the best high school rugby team in Southern California.
