GRR: Gold Coast Conference
Notre Dame College is waiting to find out who the Falcons will play for the DIAA national title this coming May, and there's still a lot of rugby to be played before that becomes clear.
However ... it doesn't hurt to make a few guesses and assumptions. Here's how the playoffs look for DIAA in the spring:
The Claremont Colleges beat Long Beach State 22-19 to claim the team's second consecutive victory in the DIAA Gold Coast conference.
CSULB has won the Gold Coast the last four years, but is in a little bit of a rebuilding phase, while Claremont, back in DI rugby after playing in NSCRO last season, is looking strong. Flanker Brian Rauzi was named player of the game for Claremont.
The University of San Diego defeated Azusa Pacific 28-7 Saturday in the only game in the Gold Coast.
USD is now 1-1, and Azusa Pacific 0-2. Players in wet, muddy conditions, both teams had trouble holding onto the ball at times, and footing was unpredictable.
Here are the weekend's DI men's college rugby games, with several top-ranked teams in action.
Grand Canyon edged defending Gold Coast conference champs 31-28 in an early marquee matchup in the DIAA conference.
With the victory, GCU moved to 3-0 in conference play and put themselves in superb position to be the top team in the league.
