Cal Poly visited Cal for Round 1 in the Western Bracket and the Mustangs started the game on the front foot and using their kicking game to test the Bears.
A Coby Baker penalty attempt drifted wide, and after a few minutes Cal finally got into Mustangs territory. A short pass while being hit by Evan Weigold to Oliver Newall put Newall through for a 25-meter jaunt and try.
In a midweek game in Ellensburg, Wash., Lindenwood defeated Central Washington 37-22 Tuesday.
This game was far, far closer than the final score might indicate. It was tied with 13 minutes to go and was still a one-score game into the final five minutes.
The game was very entertaining and the scoring went back-and-forth for much of the afternoon.
It was a weekend of very close games in D1 Elite, which is good news for the league.

Central Washington defeated UCLA 38-19 in a D1A non-conference game that went a long way toward confirming CWU as one of the top teams in the West.
CWU got four tries from wing Oscar Treacy, who added to that tally with a very good defensive game, as well.
It was a good day for Treacy as he has been battling injuries.
