High School Boys
The Mira Costa Mustangs took to their home stadium pitch on a chilly Saturday night against La Costa Canyon and came away with a tight victory over LCC in SCIRF play.
A high school 7s tournament will be held during the NCR-run Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC) 7s in Boyds, Md. at the same venue.
GRR caught up with the new Nelson College Scholarship recipients JW Sarkees and Connor Bender.
The two will join the New Zealand school to study and play rugby in April and stay through the Northern Hemisphere summer. It will be a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience for both.
Efforts are being made in various circles to revitalize all-star or select-side HS rugby, but the efforts have had to navigate COVID shutdowns, the emergence of the MLR, and the changing calendar.
Already the HS slate of games is expanding and this is a really interesting upcoming week.
