For those who think the major, high-profile academies make major tournaments a fait accompli, consider the National Sevens Youth Rugby Championships.
Eagle Impact Rugby Academy and Rhinos did not dominate—they played well to be sure, but the trophies went elsewhere.
LA Tribe and USA South were perhaps the story of Day One in the Boys Tier I division of the National Sevens Youth Rugby Championships.
Played on the campus of St. Ignatius HS in Cleveland, Ohio (thanks to SIHS students for help in reporting on this tournament), six excellent programs clashed.

Boston College High defeated Milton HS 47-26 Wednesday evening to move into the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association Boys D1 final.
BC High took a 21-5 lead into the break but the game was perhaps tighter than the score indicates. Milton was knocking on the door during the final five minutes of the half. But BC High's defense held on.
The Maryland Exiles and Our Lady of Good Counsel High School got together this past weekend to start their sevens series.
"The focus is get everyone in and let them learn the game through Sevens," said Good Counsel Head Coach Karl Heineman.
Maryland Exiles Coach Dan Soso said the partnership is kind of a no-brainer.
