GRR: Trojans
Last weekend South Greenville capped off their MSIRL season with two games in Georgia.
With time limits for age-grade players in place, South Greenville played two 45-minute games on Saturday, one against Phoenix of Alpharetta, and one against the East Cobb Trojans.
The Georgia Varsity state final matched perennial in-state rivals Alpharetta Phoenix and East Cobb Trojans in what was a repeat of a somewhat controversial 2016 championship gam that was halted for lightning and never finished.
Eight of the nine teams in the Mid-South Independent Rugby League (MSIRL) will compete in MSIRL games at the Carolina Ruggerfest.
In an eagerly anticipated match up of the two Georgia-based MSIRL teams, Alpharetta Phoenix faced off against current Georgia state champions East Cobb Trojans at Life University on Saturday.
Union County downed the East Cobb Trojans 32-15 Saturday in cold, wet conditions in Georgia.
This was a Mid-South Independent Rugby League (MSIRL) game, and an important one for both. The game was 10-8 in favor of Union County (out of North Carolina), and 15-15 with about 12 minutes to go. But then Union County opened it up for three late tries to put the game away.
