The wind came off Lake Washington with a vengeance Saturday and had its say as Western Washington faced the University of Washington in Seattle in the playoff final of the Northwest Collegiate Conference.
What the wind said to the Huskies was, “you didn’t do quite enough.”
Two DIAA Conference held their semifinals on Saturday, and the semis mirrored each other somewhat.
In one game in each conference, the #1 seed won by a staggering amount. In the other, the #2 and #3 seeds were in a bit of a slugfest.
Sunday, we see which team was helped and which was hindered.
The Air Force Academy won the Rocky Mountain 7s, jetting by everyone they played as the Zoomies went 5-0 and outscored opponents 223-27.
"We had to scrape off a bit of rust in the early going," said Air Force Coach Joe Muehlbauer. "We'd just come from playing 15s. But once we got going, we did well. Our defense was very good all day, and we did a good job of building possession."
AIC is hosting the Armory 7s Sunday in Springfield, Mass. This is the third USA Championship qualifier of the weekend, and features some well-regarded teams.
The hosts are likely the favorites, while Dartmouth certainly will provide a stern test.
The University of Arkansas has qualified for the DIAA National Quarterfinals after thrashing Iowa State 62-7, and thus leapfrogging Kansas State and Missouri to the top of the Heart of America Conference.
