GRR: College Men
It was a busy Sunday in Men’s DII college rugby, as all but three national playoff positions were decided.
Rowan College won the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference Sunday with a 39-10 defeat of rivals Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Both teams had played and won semifinals on Saturday, and knew they had a tough game ahead of them on Sunday.
Two conference champions were crowned on Sunday in men's DI college rugby in dramatic fashion, as Syracuse won the Empire and Bowling Green won the MAC in games that went down to the wire.
It will be Rowan University against IUP in the MARC Conference final Sunday after both won semifinals Saturday.
IUP defeated York in one semi, while Rowan beat Drexel by a surprisingly close score of 25-11.
“I think we started slowly,” said Rowan co-captain JC Carr. “We tried to do a little too much; we weren’t patient.”
BERKELEY – With 32 tries scored and only one try surrendered during a 4-0 Saturday on Witter Rugby Field, Cal won their pool in impressive fashion in the PAC Rugby 7s Championship; meanwhile UCLA edged Arizona State to take Pool B.
Cal will take on Arizona State at 1:05pm Sunday, while UCLA will face Utah, the only team to score against Cal, in the other Cup Semifinal at 1:25pm.
