GRR: Tri-State Conference
Molloy College, Sacred Heart, and Vassar are all 2-0 in the Tri-State Conference after all three won games over the weekend.
Vassar is 2-0 after beating one of the teams they might expect to challenge them in the Tri State Men’s DII conference, Siena, on Saturday.
Vassar got tries from Joe Simon, Dale Lord, Adam D’Agostino, Eli Vargas, and Zach Rippe in a 31-10 victory.
Tri-State opened up its women’s college season this weekend, seeing four DII matches take place alongside three DII hybrid/NSCRO games. The traditional DII leaders – Rutgers and Vassar – won on the road, while Marist and Hofstra also started the fall in good form.
The Tri-State DII men's collegiate conference got underway this past weekend, with the biggest result likely being Siena edging RPI 16-12 to make a statement as to who will challenge Vassar for the North Division title.
Vassar won also, paced by two tries from center Eli Vargas and 12 points from scrumhalf Gary Garcia, the Brewers defeated SUNY New Paltz 27-14.
This weekend marks the beginning of the Tri-State Conference season and while it’s early days - most of the students have just returned to campus - it’s also a competition that is completely open.
The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute rugby programs - both men and women - got their season kick-started this week with a special get-to-know-the-game event for incoming freshmen.
