Men DII College Rankings
Who is jumping from the 2nd tier into the top tier in Men's D2 college rugby?
As we've been saying for a while this fall, there's a fairly clear division between the stronger teams and the next tier. There's generally a series of tiers within D2 college rugby, but the gap isn't always especially large. It is this year.
Fully a dozen teams moved four or more spots this week.
The reason for that is we finally saw some teams with strong preseason rankings hit a speed bump. Oddly, while we move three teams out of the Top 10, only one of those teams lost. Virginia tied D3 team Hampden-Sydney; Georgetown beat Salisbury (but in a very close game), and then Villanova lost to Scranton.
Well we've been talking about how there's a top tier and a 2nd tier and then a 3rd tier in Men's D2 college rugby, and it's clear to us that is the case.
Fourteen of our Top 20 played, and only one lost. That loss was #15 losing to #10.
The top two teams remain the same this week in our D2 rankings but we've got changes after that.
As we have said before, the opening week of rankings is a bit of a guess and relies heavily on last year.
But small changes in teams can make for big changes in their fortunes. SLU's win over Washington University was a good example of that, as was RPI's win over Albany.
