GRR: Liberty Conference
Iona and Syracuse are looking strong in the Liberty Conference after both beat key rivals this weekend.
Iona got two tries from Watson Filikitonga and from Mike Hay in a 79-10 dismissal of Fordham. Nine other Iona players touched down—Conor Byrne, Andrew Aglione, Phil Raviele, John Powers, Connor Buckley, Cam DiGiorgio, Doug Price, Tyler Ringwood, and Omar Mtarfi.
The Liberty Conference got into action this weekend with some interesting results that thrust a couple of teams into the contender category; that's kind of a long way of saying watch out for Northeastern.
It's a full weekend of D1A action this weekend. Here's a look at what's up:
Rocky MountainBYU is at Colorado State in an early clash of two teams with conference hopes. We have a closer look at Colorado State, and the Rams have a ton of potential, but BYU's ability to reload and maintain has always been strong.
It was a day of crossover non-conference games and some conference openers in DIA rugby Saturday.
On the crossovers, Trinity continued its winning ways on its tour of the USA, beating Iona 61-12 in what Iona head coach Bruce McLane called a "great learning experience for Iona."
Nandipha Dube and Cam DiGiorgio scored tries for the Gaels in the loss.
Two undefeated teams in Liberty Empire faced each other this weekend, but only Syracuse finished the game with that record in tack. Like last weekend, the Hammerheads started strong, with Dermot Heavey touching down a loose ball on three minutes.
