GRR: Kutztown
Kutztown University gets on the field this weekend with a two-game trip to Canada, where they will face Ottawa University and then Algonquin.
Algonquin were the Ontario East Division champions on 2013 with a 6-0 record, finishing second in the Ontario Collegiate Athletic Association playoffs and earning coach Geoff Tomlinson Coach of the Year honors.
The Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference took a bit of a makeover for the upcoming season, but one thing hasn’t changed: Kutztown is the DII women’s college with the target on its back. The Pennsylvania side was pleased to advance to ACRA’s final four year last, but now that the team has diversified its experience and returned some important players, Kutztown is thinking bigger.
Kutztown University won the 2013 ACRC fall championship and followed that up with a appearance in the final of the CRC 7s invitational in the spring - now they are looking to hit a similar double in 2014-15.
Recently-graduated Kutztown University All American Mike Lawrenson has been asked to join the Counties Manukau Steelers in New Zealand's ITM Cup competition.
It’s been a pretty good June for Mike Lawrenson. The towering lock forward for Kutztown University helped propel the Golden Bears to the CRC Final, then he was named All American, and after that enjoyed three very strong games for the collegiates in the just-completed assembly.
