GRR: Central Washington University
After playing 7s all fall the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference (NCRC) gets a head start on the Winter-Spring 15s season with a small number of DI games this weekend and next.
Saturday’s game between Washington State and Central Washington is one of two that will essentially decide the Pacific Mountain North conference. The pair are the best DI women's teams in the region – one, the reigning champion; the other, the upstart challenger.
Central Washington University, ranked #16 among DI women's college rugby programs by Goff Rugby Report, edged #5 Quinnipiac 22-17 Saturday in a clash in Ellensburg, Wash.
The teams were tied with two minutes to go when freshman wing Ashley Rolsma scored the game-winner.
Tim Stanfill's name has been bandied about for years. The aggressive, speedy former Central Washington University product was an Al American in 7s, but couldn't quite crack the upper echelon of the pathway in 15s.
