GRR: Bowling Green
The Mid-American Conference got going this weekend with favored teams victorious.
As has been the case throughout the country, questions remain about which teams can get the numbers to compete. The MAC has started well in that regard with teams able to make their commitments.
Saturday’s Men’s D1 and crossover games provided a few on-paper upsets and close surprises as teams started to get moving after a long layoff.
Just as some college rugby teams are getting back into competition, others are slowing down their activity.
IUPUI defeated Bowling Green 26-20 Saturday in the first game for each team in well over a year.
For IUPUI this was a victory in several senses of the word as the Jaguars had to battle through losing a coach and dealing with a recalcitrant school administration.
"We got denied three times to have games," said club president Spencer Strout. "But we kept coming back."
Easter weekend doesn’t see a break in college rugby, as not only does the Mid-South stay active, but a few programs long quiet are back on the field.
