GRR: Bowling Green
Just as some college rugby teams are getting back into competition, others are slowing down their activity.
IUPUI defeated Bowling Green 26-20 Saturday in the first game for each team in well over a year.
For IUPUI this was a victory in several senses of the word as the Jaguars had to battle through losing a coach and dealing with a recalcitrant school administration.
"We got denied three times to have games," said club president Spencer Strout. "But we kept coming back."
Easter weekend doesn’t see a break in college rugby, as not only does the Mid-South stay active, but a few programs long quiet are back on the field.
The quote from Ernest Hemmingway's The Sun Also Rises about how Mke Campbell went bankrupt—"Gradually, then suddenly"—is kind of how, in a more positive fashion, we will see college rugby come back.
Bowling Green defeated Western Michigan 23-20 to win the Mid-American Conference championship about 11 months after winning the entire USA Rugby fall DIAA championship.
The Falcons were certainly in danger of not even winning their conference, as they had lost two games in the regular season, to Western Michigan and Louisville.
