We have a very complicated situation to deal with, which we will in some detail, so let's dispense with the less complicated stuff.
If Furman had lost to Belmont Abbey it's likely Norwich, having beaten two highly-ranked teams in convincing fashion, would have been #1.

So we delayed our rankings of D1A-level teams because the official D1A rankings came out this week and we were waiting for them.
Seemed only reasonable as we vote in that ranking. Below is the ranking that includes the current D1A teams plus the Liberty teams, which were in D1A before moving to NCR, and are eager to be ranked against this top level, so that's where we rank them.
The official D1A ranking, voted on by conferences and the media, is back with this week's Top 25.
These rankings are used, in part, to decide playoff matchups. Leading the way right now is Cal. The votes have also concluded that while Lindenwood may well have been the best team last season, with the players they graduated, they drop down a shade, to #4.
