Getting a Pan-American rugby competition done is no easy feat.
There hasn’t been anything approaching a full-international, cross-continental competition since 2003. And that was the nice but was done in a week and involved just four teams.
MIAMI, Fla. – Executive members of the top-6 ranked rugby nations spanning North and South America met in Miami, FLa. this week to discuss the creation of a new annual International Championship set to begin in 2016. The tournament, which has yet to be named, would be a groundbreaking endeavor strengthening rugby competition across the two continents.
The USA Selects claimed an impressive scalp by beating Uruguay in Montevideo with a hometown ref.
Despite being shorthanded for about 40% of the game, the Selects held on 13-3, scoring their one key try while a man short.
The USA Selects pulled off an astounding performance at the Old Christians rugby ground in Uruguay, beating the Uruguayan national team 13-3 in very difficult conditions.
The game was a grand battle, asking much of the physicality of both sides. With little space to work with and the forwards allowed to slow ball down in the rucks, offense was at a premium, and so was scoring.
