We at Goff Rugby Report World Headquarters have a few observations about the USA Men’s National Team as they head into the final stretch of the pre-World Cup matches.
Any victory over Canada is a good one for the Eagles, but now they have notched three in a row, something they’ve never done before. The USA also set records for points scored and margin of victory over Canada.
After enjoying a healthy lead over Canada for much of the game, the USA Men’s National Team found themselves up only 20-16.
Canada, by virtue of a try from Nick Blevins, had pulled within a try. USA scrumhalf Mike Petri, who had lost his fitting trying to tackle Blevins, said captain Chris Wyles rallied the team.
The Eagles fell behind early as Canada tried to push the pace of the game and work it wide.
The USA defense held, thanks in part to a huge hit from Cam Dolan, but Canada did get a penalty and a 3p-0 lead.
Tomorrow the Girls High School All Americans (GHSAAs), powered by ATAVUS, will look for their second win against the British Columbia U18s. Yesterday, the GHSAAs defeated their Canadian host 58-0 in the program's first-ever 15s game. Sunday's match kicks off at 8:45 a.m. but will not be streamed.
As expected, the Canada U20s came for blood today, having lost Wednesday’s Can-Am game 38-22 to the Women’s Junior All Americans (WJAAs). The visitors exerted themselves early on, as the WJAAs struggled to find some continuity. But it was a slow build for the Americans, and the hosts didn't allow another point-against in their 32-5 win.
