The Footybills battled for the Missouri State Championship vs. the KC Jr. Blues at Gans Creek Park in Columbia, Missouri this weekend.
The Kansas City Junior Blues edged St. Louis University High by a slim margin, taking the Missouri state final 15-14 Saturday in a dynamic game that had fans on the edge of their seats.
In a somewhat bizarre final, St. Martin's Kingfishers defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 26-19 to win the Kansas State championships.
This was the third time these two teams had met this season; the first game was a fairly convincing win for Aquinas; the second was a close victory for STA. But this third time the game went to Kingfishers.
Fairfield Prep defeated Greenwich Friday night in Rugby Connecticut league play, to advance to 3-2 in the state and give the Cardinals their first league loss of the season.
St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Martin's Kingfishers will reacquaint themselves with each other as both won their Kansas state semifinals Friday night and will meet in the state final on Sunday.
Various state leagues have their state finals this week.
SoCal, Louisiana, Virginia, NorCal, Colorado, Oklahoma,Tennessee and Utah all decide state champions. Maryland's IAA champion is decided midweek next week.
Meanwhile, Oregon, Rugby PA, Kansas, and the Md. IAA all have their semifinals.
