High School Boys
It's a big weekend in boys HS rugby.
In SoCal an up-and-coming Loyola team faced a very strong Los Alamitos team on Thursday and won (!). Top SCIRF team Cathedral Catholic is taking a trip up north to play Jesuit of Sacramento in an early-season clash of titans.
Washington DC—The Urban Rugby Championship is set to make waves on March 9, 2024, adding the Urban Rugby College Fair to the list of events; it will be hosted at H.D. Woodson High School in Washington DC, bringing together over 250 participants from Urban rugby programs across America.
Well we're back with Gamebreakers in HS Boys rugby.
Here's a look at players who stood out over the past week.
Johnny Gunn, OceansideThe Oceanside flyhalf played some excellent defense and in his overall game play led his side to a 17-7 win over Greer in South Carolina.
Red Mountain opened up their Arizona league season with a 34-17 defeat of rivals Tempe.
This was a turnaround for Red Mountain, as Tempe has been on top of the rivalry for several years. However, Tempe is fairly young—and certainly struggled with playing as a unit until later in the game—while Red Mountain has come together a little bit better.
We do not have a lot of changes in the HS club scene, but we do have a few.
If your team dropped out, remember that the main reason is because you will have games coming up to move yourself up. Right now teams that moved in—Red Mountain, Greer, Cape Fear, and Tampa—did so because of results.
