College Women
There were so many big scores between women’s colleges last weekend, but the one that stood out was the one that wasn’t supposed to happen. DII ACRA finalist Notre Dame College walloped USA Rugby DII champion Mary Washington 109-0.
Many questions arose, but both teams’ coaches confirmed the story behind that huge score: Notre Dame College is just that much better this year.
New varsity team Life University banked three wins last weekend, playing Atlanta-area DI and DII teams in a round robin, shortened match format.
First up was Georgia Tech, which provided the toughest competition. Two tries from Deshel Ferguson, and one apiece from N’Keiah Butler and Argentina’s Karen Faget, helped the Running Eagles to a 22-10 win.
What’s new with the reigning DII ACRA champion? Winona played its typically toughest league opponent on Saturday, defeating Mankato 39-7 on the host’s friends and family day.
DI’s Virginia Women’s Rugby fell off last year. After a couple of uncharacteristic losses during the season, the team bowed out of the Mason Dixon playoffs during the quarterfinals (to James Madison).
