The Mid-Atlantic region sees a rematch of the Mason Dixon conference final in tomorrow's DI quarterfinals: West Chester vs. UVA. The pair won their respective Round of 16 matches convincingly, as the Rams beat James Madison 82-0, and UVA topped Virginia Tech 74-7.
CSU Northridge coach Christina Alatorre said she prepared the team for a range of “what if” scenarios, but she was referring to roster shifts. Both Northridge and UN Reno probably didn’t think that their DII national Round of 16 playoff would be decided in overtime, or by three yellow cards.
While the college 15s playoffs overwhelm the sound waves this weekend, Northeast and Midwest regions are launching into the 7s qualifier season. A good group of teams will be out on the pitch this weekend, either fighting for a berth to the May 23-24 national championship or looking for a conference title.
The Midwest U23s are scouting once again, this time looking toward the women’s 15s tour to Wales this August. The first step in naming the travel squad occurs this weekend at the Midwest LAU tournament, hosted by Palmer College.
Although the match-ups and kickoff times have been published (click here), the women’s DI and DII spring brackets have not. Therefore, the match-ups for the final four are not known. Nevertheless, below is some insight into the DI and DII regional playoffs.
