College Women
The Women’s DII College rankings were tough to follow this year. Either the heavy hitters in the Northeast and Midwest were being heavily hit by snow and ice, or the spring-based teams were suffering through forfeit/cancelation-ridden leagues (with some notable exceptions). But after a month’s hiatus, some good results have necessitated some movement in the Top 20.
The kickoff times and match-ups for the women's college spring Round of 16 are listed below. All times are listed in the host sites' local times. Albuquerque gets a jump on the field, as its DI playoffs begin Friday afternoon and the DII semifinalist will be named Saturday. All of the DI and DII spring semifinalists will be known by Sunday 5pm PT. Stay tuned for previews.
Davenport continued to impress last Saturday, as the team defeated DI Michigan 54-0. The victory marked a nice rebound after the 15-6 loss to DI Lindenwood in late March.
Two big moves occurred in the Women DI College Top 20, and they’re a reflection of the build-up to spring playoffs. Same thing happened in the fall, when post-season teams started peaking and idleness hurt certain teams’ standings.
Women’s colleges in the Rocky Mountain region have rallied behind spring 7s. It makes weather sense, but a concentrated 7s season also helps smaller, isolated schools play in meaningful competitions while the sport engenders a following.
