GRR: Kingsley McGowan
It is generally recognized that black men have been playing rugby since as early as 1900, when James Peters played for the Knowle Rugby Club in England. That is a long time ago. Speed up to present day, even a casual viewer would recognize that the top tier teams have all featured black athletes in their starting 15. On the flipside, USA lags woefully behind.
The question is why?
We don’t know if Kingsley McGowan will get a cap this weekend in the opening round of the Americas Rugby Championship, but it would be nice if he did.
McGowan, who starred for the High School All Americans, USA U20s, St. Mary’s, and now Trinity in Ireland, is from Houston and began his rugby journey at St. Thomas in Space City.
Center or wing, it doesn’t seem to matter these days, Kingsley McGowan is just happy to be on the field, and rugby fans are happy he is, too.
The Men's Collegiate All Americans defeated Cambridge University 27-15 Saturday at Brophy Field in Hanover, NH to open their three-match series.
