GRR: College Men
The CRC runs competitions for 144 teams this coming weekend.
We already looked at the Men’s Premier, which is the largest bracket with 32 teams. Every other bracket has 16 teams—seven brackets, 112 teams. It’s massively ambitious and it’s pretty impressive to run a tournament of that size (there are a few that do this, and one or two are bigger, but it’s still pretty big).
The CRC 7s is set for this weekend and the Men’s Premier Division is back with 32 teams.
The teams come from four divisions: D3, D1AA, NCR D1, and D1A. Interestingly, no D2 teams are there. But we do have Loyola of Maryland and Babson, both D3 teams.
The Cardinals Conference and the Southern Rugby Conference have officially announced a merger, and will operate as the Southern Rugby Conference for the immediate future.
This merger is one that commissioners Thomas Trumps and Jim Wiseman have been discussing for some time and now is the time to finalize it.
The CRAA D1AA semifinals matchups are set after San Diego won their playoff game Saturday.
The USD Toreros will play Iowa State, the team they defeated to win it all last year. Meanwhile, Florida champions St. Thomas will face Sam Houston State. The winners will play Sunday for the championship.
The new CRAA Challenger Cup has its finalists as Grand Canyon and Mary Washington won their semifinals by wide margins.
GCU beat a tough Utah State team 72-6 to advance. USU took an early lead with a penalty from Franco Tellechea and stayed on the strong foot for quite a while. However, GCU's defense was up to the task.
