GRR: College Men
Life University survived a bit of a scare Saturday at Mount St. Mary's, with the Running Eagles scoring late to take home a 20-19 victory.
And yes it was a loss for MSM, but still a very good outing by The Mount and more notice that the Rugby East is closing up.
Walsh University logged the program’s first ever conference win Friday night, beating Belmont Abbey 25-10 on a rainy night in North Canton, Ohio.
The game was a lot closer than the score indicates. Belmont caused Walsh all sorts of trouble in the breakdowns and threatened constantly to overhaul the Cavaliers.
Leading the weekend's top-level men's college activities has to be Army at Navy.
Calling this fixture a heated rivalry is a gross understatement. These two institutions go after each other with an intensity you rarely see in every sport. Rugby is perfect suited for the clash and the games are, generally, very close, physically demanding, and watched closely.
While GRR has its overall D1AA rankings, those rankings mix up CRAA and NCR D1AA conferences, and, of course, there are different championships.
So we can see one team surging on to win after win, but they wouldn't be in a playoff because they're part of the other group. That's why this week we are looking at the D1AA games on their own and talking about the playoff scenarios.
Already we have a shakeup in the Big Rivers NCR D1 conference and we've only had one game.
OK, two games, but one doesn't count for the conference standings. We can talk about that one first:
