GRR: HS Girls
After a week off from competition because of smokey air thanks to regional wildfires, the Rugby Idaho girls HS 7s is back in action this week.
Monday, today, the JV girls return to the pitch with Rocky Mountain Purple and Mountain View HS both coming in with 2-0 records.
This is an Op-Ed Column by Josh Williams — COVID-19, whether we wanted it or not, has provided us an opportunity to reassess what we are doing and how to do it better moving forward. For those of us that are actively involved in youth rugby, this time is especially important, as we face multiple growing pains both within our clubs and the regions we play in.
Youth Rugby in Illinois got to go-ahead to hold rugby activities starting this past weekend and several programs were champing at the bit to get going.
Immediately after the announcement that the state of Illinois would allow non-contact practice, various programs ran non-contact sessions.
After some feedback from clubs, Utah Youth Rugby has delayed its Fall HS 7s series by two weeks.
The delay is less about COVID-19 concerns—at least in a direct way—than it is about USA Rugby's new membership platform and about the needed delays in saying the season was a go.
While smokey skies canceled this week's Rugby Idaho fall 7s, that gives everyone just a little bit more time for teams to figure out how to stop Rocky Mountain's seemingly unstoppable Kennedy Pabst.
